FLORIDA POLICE OFFICER STRUCK AND KILLED IN GAINESVILLE

The officer struck by a suspected drunk driver late Monday night has died from his injuries. Lt. Corey Dahlem, a 22-year-veteran of the force, died Wednesday after being taken off life support. Dahlem died at 2:51 p.m. at Shands Gainesville with family and fellow officers gathered around him. Dahlem suffered a catastrophic head injury while working post-game traffic duty.

The UNF student accused of hitting Dahlem appeared in court in Gainesville Wednesday morning to face DUI charges. Those charges against 21-year-old Austin Wright are expected to be upped to DUI manslaughter due to Dahlem's death. Wright is being held on $500,000 bond.
