FLORIDA OFFICER HIT WHILE DIRECTING TRAFFIC

A Clearwater police officer is recovering after being struck by a car while directing traffic on Clearwater Beach. Officer Eric Eisenhardt was directing traffic at the intersection of Coronado Drive and 5th Street around 9:20 p.m. when he was hit and knocked to the ground by a car which never stopped.

Police officers quickly set up checkpoints on the roads leaving the beach.

About two hours after the accident, an officer found the car parked along Hamden Drive on Clearwater Beach.Investigators were then able to track down and arrest 18-year-old Emily Fate. She is charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. Officer Eisenhardt is expected to recover from his injuries.
