TENNESSEE TEEN DRIVER IN STOLEN CAR HITS KNOXVILLE OFFICER
A Knoxville police officer was struck by a stolen car Sunday driven by a suspect who isn't even old enough to drive. The 15-year old is now in custody.
Investigators say the boy took an SUV from Johnson City. Officer Tim Edwards spotted the vehicle parked in East Knoxville Sunday morning. Before he could approach the SUV, the driver took off, knocking Edwards into his cruiser.
After a brief chase, the teen rammed the SUV into a fence. But KPD investigators say the story doesn't end there. "At that point, he jumped out the car and there was about a mile foot chase," said Sgt. Gary Moyer. "The officers were able to catch him and take him into custody, without any further incident."
Investigators say Officer Edwards is going to alright, and no was else was hurt. They also say officers did not know how old the teen was until after his arrest. KPD says the department would never chase inexperienced drivers under normal circumstances.
