OREGON POLICE CRUISER COLLIDES WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE ON ITS WAY TO A TRAFFIC STOP
A Portland Police Bureau patrol car is damaged after it crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of Southeast 17th Avenue and McLoughlin Boulevard iin Southeast Portland. A Portland police car was hit by another vehicle around 12:30 p.m. Friday en route to assisting other officers with a high-risk traffic stop in Southeast Portland.
According to authorities Officer Tom Rhodes, 46, was traveling through the intersection of Southeast 17th Avenue and McLoughlin Boulevard with his lights and siren on when he slowed to a stop and started edging around a truck that had stopped for him. At the same time, Joshua Harris, 24, drove into the intersection in a Chevrolet Blazer and collided with Rhodes’ car.
Harris told officers he had heard the siren but could not see where the sound was coming from nor could he see the patrol car in front of the truck.
Because Harris had the right of way, no citations were issued. Both Harris and Rhodes were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
