MAN KILLED OHIO DEPUTY INJURED IN CRASH WITH SUV
A man who was pushing a stranded car was killed and a Lucas County Sheriff's deputy was hurt when both were hit by an SUV. It all began when a car broke down around 2:45am on Friday. The disabled car was in a private driveway on Salisbury Road near Crissey Road in Monclova Township. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says an SUV driven by Joseph Champagne of Milan, Michigan crossed the center line and hit a Lucas County Sheriff's Deputy cruiser that was parked near the disabled car. The impact pushed the cruiser back into Deputy Lee Feeney and 51-year-old Keith Gunn of Moncolva.
Gunn was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo where doctors pronounced him dead. Rescuers drove Deputy Feeney to St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, where he was treated and released. A passenger in the disabled car was not hurt. Troopers say Feeney and Gunn had been pushing the disabled car out of the private driveway to service it. The Highway Patrol says the crash is under investigation. Troopers say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
