ARIZONA K-9 KILLED WHILE CHASING SUSPECT

The Mesa police dog who made national news after taking down a man on U.S. 60 has been killed in the line of duty.

Last night, Leon, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, was chasing a man who had just thrown a bike at an officer when he was struck by a car.

Last summer, the K-9 helped police detain a 360-pound man in a standoff on U.S. 60. Leon joined the force in January 2006. He is the first Mesa police dog to die in the line of duty.
