RHODE ISLAND OFFICER STRUCK BY CAR: SHOTS FIRED
A Cranston police officer suffered minor injuries when he was deliberately struck by a car while attempting to make a traffic stop late Saturday night, Cranston police said on Sunday. The officer, whose name was not released, fired a shot at the driver during the 11:15 p.m. incident on Pleasant Street. It wasn't known if the driver was shot. No arrests have been made. The uniformed officer was on foot, and ordered a Nissan Maxima to stop. The car struck the officer, knocking him down. The car then backed up toward the officer, striking him again, police said. The officer then fired a shot at the driver, but the car sped away.
