PHILADELPHIA OFFICER PINNED BY CAR WON'T LOSE HIS LEG
An 18-year-old man is under arrest, charged with attempted murder after allegedly driving his car into a group of Philadelphia police officers -- critically injuring one -- in the city's Northern Liberties section. Officer Joseph Glovacz helped 6th district cops chase down and arrest a robbery suspect at the corner of Wilde and Orianna Streets just after 11am Tuesday February 20.
Police commissioner Sylvester Johnson says while they waited for a transport wagon to pick the guy up, they heard an engine revving.
"They heard a male say, 'You're not going to take my brother to jail.' And as they're standing there, this car just ran -- deliberately -- right over the officer, and pinned him to a pole."
Officer Glovacz was seriously injured. Doctors at Hahnemann Hospital are trying to save his right leg. Another officer who was hit was treated and released.
The 18-year-old driver is being held on attempted murder, aggravated assault, and other related charges.
