MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTING TO STRIKE SOUTH CAROLINA SHERIFFS OFFICER
On February 23, 2007 a 20-year-old Beech Island, South Carolina man tried to strike an officer with his car, then led deputies on a chase that ended in a briar patch. That's according to a report from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office. Officers were responding to an 11:00am burglary call on Green Pond Road. They were stopping traffic in the area so they could search.
According to the release, Jarrett D. Dandridge ignored a deputy's command to stop, sped away and attempted to hit an Aiken Bloodhound Tracking Team member with his car. Then, it says, Dandridge led deputies on a high-speed pursuit.
For about 15 minutes, officers say they pursued Dandridge at speeds up to 90 miles-per-hour throughout the area until he lost control of his car on Stallings Road. Although they say he ran from the car, deputies found him a short while later hiding in a briar patch. Deputies also recovered an amount of marijuana and crack cocaine that the subject is accused of throwing from his speeding car.
Dandridge is charged with assault with intent to kill, failure to stop for blue light and siren, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within a half-mile of a school and simple possession of marijuana.
