ILLINOIS FIREFIGHTER STRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY
A Sugar Grove firefighter was released from the hospital Wednesday February 14 after he was injured in a car accident. The accident occurred when a car spun out of control while the firefighter stood on the side of the Reagan Memorial Tollway tending to another car that had spun out of control. Firefighter and paramedic Steve Wilkens, 36, was on duty and had responded to an accident near Bliss Road just before 9 a.m. Wilkens, who has been with the department since last summer, sustained some injuries, but he is recuperating at home.
