NORTH CAROLINA OFFICER HIT BY S-U-V
A Hickory man was jailed after police say he tried to run down an officer while fleeing. A Hickory police officer was on routine patrol about 9:30 p.m. Saturday January 7 when he saw what appeared to be a drug buy. As the officer crossed in front of the SUV parked in the 900 block of Second Street, SW, the driver drove off, striking the officer on the torso. The SUV was stopped at the intersection of South Center Street and Second Avenue, SW after a short pursuit. The officer did not require medical treatment. The driver was
charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, driving while impaired, resisting arrest, driving while license revoked and two counts of speeding to elude arrest.
