MARYLAND TROOPER, HIGHWAY WORKER STRUCK ON BELTWAY

A Maryland State Trooper and a highway worker were both hospitalized after a car lost control on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway near Route 210 and slammed into the state trooper's cruiser. Authorities said the crash happened about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, January 2. Authorites said that a construction worker was setting up an electronic arrow sign that was attached to the back of a truck and the trooper had parked his cruiser nearby. Investigators said an vehicle that was traveling through the area apparently lost control, went off the roadway and slammed into the state trooper's vehicle. The force of the crash sent the trooper's cruiser into the highway worker who was setting up the sign. Both of the victims were flown to the hospital. Authorities said the trooper was treated and released and the highway worker is suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
