CAR THIEF STRIKES AUSTRALIAN OFFICER

A police officer is recovering in hospital after being run over by a stolen car at Pinkenba in north Brisbane. A man in his 20s is being questioned over the incident after the quick-thinking officer managed to fire several shots at the car that hit him, as it drove off. The man was forced to pull over a short distance up the road and was detained by police. A police spokeswoman says the officer is in a stable condition at St Andrews Hospital and is being treated for bruising to his legs and back.
