3 STUDENTS, CROSSING GUARD HIT BY CAR IN WHEATON, ILLINOIS
Three boys and a crossing guard were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries suffered when they were hit by a car Friday while crossing a street in the west suburb. The boys, who attend Edison Junior High School, were crossing in the crosswalk with a crossing guard east on Elm Street when they were struck by a 1994 Saturn sedan about 3:15 p.m. at Naperville Road, according to Wheaton Police.
The car, driven by a 19-year-old man, was headed west on Elm Streets when it turned at the intersection to head south on Naperville Road. The car then struck the children and crossing guard, who was crossing with the green, he said.
The 19-year-old driver did not leave the scene, and he was not injured in the crash. The boys -- between 11 and 13 years old -- and the crossing guard, who was a part-time employee of the Wheaton Police Department, were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
