OREGON TROOPER HOSPITALIZED AFTER CRASH ON ICY HIGHWAY

An Oregon State Police trooper was seriously injured Wednesday November 29 after a commercial truck crashed into his patrol car on Interstate 84. Trooper Timothy Zinn, 30, was initially transported to St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton but was later taken by air ambulance to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, Washington. The accident happened about 1:15 p.m. while the trooper was investigating a pickup towing a trailer that had spun out of control on the icy highway. The commercial truck came around a curve, lost control and struck the trooper's patrol car as well as the pickup and travel trailer, Hastings said. Investigators were still trying to figure out whether the trooper was hit by the truck itself, or by his own patrol car. The driver of the pickup, John H. Sherrill, 46, of Kansas, suffered minor injuries and was taken to St. Anthony Hospital for treatment. The commercial truck driver, Curtis B. Hoots, 56, of Philomath, was not injured.
