ILLINOIS STATE TROOPER HIT BY CAR ON EXPRESSWAY SHOULDER

An Illinois State trooper is recovering after being hit by a car on Tuesday night December 19 on Interstate 290 in Schaumburg. The trooper was checking on an abandoned car on outbound 290 just south of Higgins Road in Schaumburg, when the driver lost control and hit the abandoned vehicle. The driver then hit the trooper's squad car was in front of the abandoned vehicle and the trooper. The trooper was then struck. It was not clear whether the trooper was struck by the moving vehicle or the abandoned vehicle after it had been struck. The trooper was taken to Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Heights with non-life threatening injuries for observation.
