VIRGINIA STATE TROOPER HIT, KILLED BY DRIVER ON U.S. 58
A Virginia State Police trooper was struck by a passing car and killed Friday November 24 as he stood on the side of U.S. 58 after issuing a summons to a motorist. Robert A. Hill Sr., 42, of Courtland, was outside of his unmarked patrol car near Adams Grove, about six miles east of Emporia. Hill had served nearly 20 years with the State Police. Hill had just finished writing the summons at 1:10 p.m. when a 1995 Cadillac driven by Lowell J. Carrington, 84, struck him and sideswiped a 2002 Mercury driven by Megan N. Cottrell of Virginia Beach. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
