INDIANA OFFICER CRITICAL AFTER BIKE CRASH

A police officer who was hit by an off-road motorcycle remains in a critical condition in hospital. The uniformed officer suffered serious head injuries in the incident, which happened near a grassy area off Whitefield Road, Everton, on Thursday. He was on a routine foot patrol when he was hit by the bike, driven by one boy with a second riding pillion. A 15-year-old boy and another local youth are being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder. Merseyside police said the boys were being questioned at separate police stations.

Liverpool is one of 20 "hot-spot" areas targeted by the government in a nationwide crackdown on mini-motorbike riders. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to contact Merseyside Police or Crimestoppers.
