CAR HITS, INJURES NYPD OFFICER ON STATEN ISLAND
An on-duty police officer suffered a broken leg Friday night October 27 after a car plowed into him. Plainclothes officers stopped the car about 11 p.m. on Staten Island after it was spotted driving erratically. Police say Richard Simeone, 17, put his car into reverse, hit the officer and then smashed into a telephone pole. The officer was taken to Staten Island University North Hospital, where he was in stable condition with a fractured right leg. His identity was not released. Simeone of Staten Island was arrested and faces charges of assault against a police officer and driving while intoxicated.
