TOW TRUCK DRIVER DIES IN LOOP 202 HIT-AND-RUN
An Arizona tow truck driver died Wednesday night September 8, 2006 in a hit-and-run collision on Loop 202 after he stepped out of his vehicle to assist a customer. Sorces state that the victim was in the process of securing a Mercedes Benz to be towed about 11 p.m. when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. The victim was reported to be standing in the emergency lane next to the driver's side of the car, and the tow truck had its yellow emergency lights and rear deck loading lights turned on. The incident occured in the eastbound lanes of the freeway near McClintock Drive and the Loop 101 interchange in Tempe. The victim, 36-year-old Joey Rubio, had worked for Shamrock Towing Company about seven months.
