SUSPECT FACES MURDER TRIAL IN FATAL HIT-AND-RUN OF CALIFORNIA POLICE OFFICER

A Placer County judge ruled Thursday that Eric Dungan should stand trial on a charge of second-degree murder for the Oct. 9 hit-and-run traffic death of Rocklin Police Officer Matthew Redding, who was struck by a pickup truck while diverting traffic on Highway 65 in Roseville. Dungan, 26, of Lincoln also will be held to answer on a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, the judge ruled. If convicted of both charges, he would face a state prison sentence of 15 years to life, according to prosecutors.
