PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICER INJURED - SUSPECT KILLED AFTER CHASE

A chase in the Port Richmond section of Philadelphia ended with a city police officer injured and a suspect fatally wounded Monday night.  Officers began pursuit of a suspect driving erratically after he struck three cars in separate locations.A police helicopter was called in to pursue the suspect’s vehicle after ground crews were forced to call off the chase. Officials said the suspect’s vehicle was located the intersection near Bellegrade Street and Allegheny Avenue near the Nativity Church around 7:30 p.m. As an officer attempted to approach the vehicle, authorities said he was struck by the driver. Authories said that the individual struck the officer and pinned him against the fence. Gunshots then occuured. The suspect suffered several gunshot wounds and was taken to Northeastern Hospital where he later died.Police said the officer was also taken to a local hospital with injuries to both legs.
