MOTORIST RUNS OVER CHICAGO OFFICER, SLAMS INTO SQUAD CAR
A motorist ran over a police officer then fled the scene and caused a four-car collision involving a Chicago police squad car on the Kennedy Expressway Sunday afternoon July 30, 2006. The chase began when Chicago police were conducting a seat belt mission, where officers flag down motorists to check to see if they are wearing their seat belt. The suspect was apparently unwilling to pull over and ran over an officer beside the roadway and fled the scene. An advisory was placed over the radio to all police officers warning them to be on the lookout for the offending car. As a police sergeant on the Northwest Side was listening to the advisory near North Avenue and Rockwell Street, the offending motorist slammed into his squad car.
