ILLINOIS POLICE OFFICER STRUCK WHILE DIRECTING TRAFFIC
A six-year veteran of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department suffered bruises and cuts Thursday when he was hit by a car while directing traffic during Northern Illinois University's Move-in Day. Deputy Ryan Pettengell, 27, was directing traffic at Route 38 and Nelson Road along the route university officials told students to use when moving into the dorms on Thursday.
Around 9:20 a.m., a car headed south on Nelson Road collided with one heading west on Route 38. One of the cars swung around and hit the officer. Pettengell was treated at Kishwaukee Community Hospital and released, Scott said.
