ILLINOIS STATE TROOPER STRUCK ON THE DAN RYAN IN CHICAGO

An Illinois State trooper is recovering at a hospital after the squad car the trooper was in was struck by a truck during a traffic stop early Tuesday on the southbound Dan Ryan Expressway, causing lane closures.  The trooper was sitting in his squad car on the shoulder of the southbound Dan Ryan near 39th Street conducting a traffic stop with a truck, which was also pulled over to the shoulder when the accident happened about 2 a.m., according to Sanchez. A semi-truck then crashed into the truck on the shoulder, pushing it in the trooper's squad car, said Sanchez. The trooper was probably wearing his seat belt when the accident happened, Sanchez said.
