CALIFORNIA OFFICER NARROWLY ESCAPES INJURY

A Riverside police officer escaped injury when a hit-and-run driver crashed into a car that was being impounded while the patrolman leaned inside it. The officer was arresting a suspected drunk driver about 3:25 a.m. near 14th and Park Streets in Riverside.The officer was leaning inside the driver's side of the suspect car to take inventory of its contents when a vehicle crashed into the driver's side door, missing the officer by inches.The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a light-colored four-door sedan with damage to the front right side and passenger door.
