IL OFFICE STRUCK DURING SPECIAL OLYMPIC EVENT

Evanston Police officer Stanley Samson was struck while riding on his motorcycle around 11:30 a.m. and taken to a nearby hospital, according to Evanston City Manager Julia Carroll. Carroll said the officer was leading the runners on his motorcyle during the annual Torch Run, an event where police officers run to benefit the Special Olympics when a driver passed police vehicles traveling on each side of runners. The driver struck Samson when he tried to return to his original lane.
