IL AUXILIARY DEPUTY SHERIFF STRUCK

A 41-year-old Niantic man was arrested for driving under the influence early Tuesday after he crashed his car into a Macon County sheriff's squad car parked on old U.S. 36 at Meridian Road at about 10:45 p.m. Monday. The squad car, with emergency lights activated, was blocking traffic to allow for the cleanup of an 85,000 gallon gasoline spill at the Buckeye Partners LP terminal just west of Harristown. Auxiliary sheriff's deputy Larry Feller was exiting the squad car as the crash occurred. Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Busch said Feller suffered a broken collarbone and bruises and abrasions.
