TWO DIE IN JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA CRASH; OFFICER HURT DURING INVESTIGATION
Two people were killed and a third injured in a single-vehicle crash on the Southside on Saturday night, but the injuries did not end there. Almost three hours into the police investigation into that accident on St. Augustine Road near Emerson Street, a driver plowed through the scene, striking a patrol car and injuring an officer. He was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center to be evaluated. There was no word of what happened to the other driver or what charges that person may face. The original crash occurred just before 11 p.m. when a northbound SUV left the road, cut a tree in half, spun around and was stopped when it struck a group of trees.
Police said two people trapped in the vehicle died at the scene. A third victim was taken to Shands, reported to be in serious condition.
None of the names of those involved were released.
