COP FATALLY SHOOTS MOTORIST AND THEN GETS HIT BY CAR
A Chicago police officer was injured Wednesday night when he was hit by a car after the officer had shot its driver, police said. The unidentified driver died from the gunshot wound, said police spokesman Pat Camden. Two Ogden District officers in a marked car noticed a vehicle parked on the sidewalk around 10:15 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Roosevelt Road, Camden said. The officers walked up to the car and saw a male driver and female passenger. When the driver started the car and began backing up, one officer leaned in and tried to turn off the ignition. "The driver grabs the officer's arm and goes," Camden said. The officer yelled to the driver to stop. When he did not stop, the officer drew his weapon and fired at the driver, Camden said. The driver let go of the officer, who fell down and was struck by the car as it continued heading west before coming to a stop at Pulaski Road. The officer's injuries were considered non-life-threatening, Camden said.
