CALIFORNIA DRIVER KILLED IN CRASH WITH FIRE TRUCK
CLAREMONT - A suspected drunken driver was killed when he slammed into a fire truck stopped on the 210 Freeway for another crash, the California Highway Patrol said Monday. Juan Paredes, 51, of Rancho Cucamonga was flown to County USC Medical Center after the 3:04 a.m. Saturday crash. He died at 8:42 a.m., the CHP said. Witnesses told the CHP that Paredes was driving a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser east on the 210 near Mountain Avenue at about 70 mph when he crashed into the stopped fire truck, which had its emergency lights on, said Officer Edmund Zorilla. Los Angeles County firefighters had parked the truck horizontally across two traffic lanes to protect firefighters who were checking on the victim in the first crash. "We saw our fire engine jump and move. There were car parts and debris flying. We saw the vehicle hit the engine, spin and end up a couple lanes over from us," said Los Angeles County fire Capt. Roger Gomez.
