Tennessee DOT Help Truck Driver Killed
A tragic event occurred today on Interstate 55 South in West Memphis, Arkansas. TDOT HELP Truck driver Robert Nowicki was fatally injured in an accident as he stopped to assist a motorist. Nowicki had been with the Tennessee Department of Transportation since 2006. His death marks the first death of a TDOT HELP truck driver/operator killed in the line of duty since the program began in 1999.

UK: Tow Truck Driver Dies After Being Struck in December of 2009
In the United Kingdom, back in December of 2009, Denis Livesley, 60, was loading a crashed Volvo onto his recovery truck on a slip road off the M60, when a Volkswagen Golf skidded on ice and hit him. A tow truck driver was mown down by a runaway car only to be left dying in the road - as other motorists drove round him. Instead of stopping to help, drivers in other cars swerved round Mr Livesley as he lay face down on the inside lane of a slip road on the M60 near Sale, Greater Manchester.

Massachusetts State Trooper Ellen Engelhardt Dies 8 Years After Being Hit by Drunken Driver
Former Marshfield resident and longtime State Police Trooper Ellen Engelhardt has died. She was 58. Engelhardt sustained a severe brain injury in 2003 when a car driven by an 18-year-old Wayland man slammed into the back of her cruiser in the breakdown lane of Route 25 in Wareham.

Ohio Deputy Killed in Chase and Crash in Warren County Identified, Suspect Arrested
A deputy was struck and killed trying to stop a suspect being chased by authorities in Warren County early Tuesday morning. Police say Sgt. Brian Dulle, 36, of the Warren County Sheriff's Office was deploying stop sticks to try and stop the suspect around 2 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Utica Road in Turtlecreek Township when he was struck by the suspect's vehicle and killed instantly.

Vehicle in Deadly Warren County Chase Stolen
Police now say the vehicle which struck and killed a Warren County Sheriff's Deputy Tuesday morning had been stolen from a bar in Middletown. Middletown police say the car was stolen from the "Take A Break Lounge" in Middletown.

Wisconsin Tow Truck Driver Struck and Killed
Dan Bobholz, of Allenton, was killed when a Jeep traveling southbound on Highway 41 sideswiped a legally parked Washington County Sheriff's Office squad that was doing traffic direction while Bobholz removed a runoff vehicle from the right ditch. After the Jeep sideswiped the Washington County squad, it started to spin and struck Bobholz while he was on foot loading the runoff vehicle onto his wrecker. Bobholz was then pushed into his wrecker and, as the Jeep rotated away, he fell into a traffic lane of Highway 41 where he was then run over by a semi tractor-trailer traveling past the scene.

Texas Volunteer Was Struck and Killed at Wildfire
Texas volunteer firefighter Gregory Simmons, 51, of Eastland apparently died after being struck by a vehicle after he fled a fire truck that was trapped in a wildfire-consumed pasture, a state trooper told The Associated Press on Sunday. Simmons was found on a rural roadside, but investigators are not yet sure if he was hit by a fire truck or car Friday as a 3,000-acre raging fire caused thick, black smoke, senior State Trooper Phillip "Sparky" Dean told AP.

Texas Tow Truck Driver Struck And Killed On Highway 77
A tow truck driver was killed along Highway 77 this morning as he was trying to move a wrecked vehicle off the road. 24-year-old Christian Gutierrez was hit by a UPS 18-wheeler as he stood on the side of the road. The UPS driver kept going and later told Department of Public Safety troopers that he did not realize he had hit anyone. Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene, charges are pending against the UPS driver.

Update; New York State Trooper Struck, Killed on I-290 in Tonawanda by Passing Motorist
A trooper who was writing a speeding ticket on an interstate highway was struck and killed Saturday by a passing motorist, state police said. Trooper Kevin Dobson, 43, was pronounced dead at a hospital soon after the 7:30 a.m. accident on Interstate 290 in Tonawanda, near Buffalo, said Deputy State Police Superintendent Thomas Fazio.

New York State Trooper Killed During Traffic Stop
A 14-year veteran of the New York State Police has died. State Police say Trooper Kevin Dobson died Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle while on a routine traffic stop. State Police say Dobson was hit on the I-290 Southbound around 7:30 a.m. just beyond the Colvin Boulevard exit. Police say Dobson was issuing a traffic ticket when he was struck and killed by a passing motorist. State Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them at (716) 759-6831.
