  • Michigan Police Officer Struck and Killed by Escaping Bank Robber

    Walker Michigan Police Officer Trevor Slot was struck and killed by a bank robbery suspect while attempting to deploy stop sticks on I-96 at 8th Avenue. The two suspects had robbed a bank in Ravenna, Michigan, and were fleeing the area when they were spotted by on-duty FBI agents who happened to be in the area. The agents initiated a pursuit and were quickly joined by several state and local agencies.

  • Mississippi Police Officer Hit, Killed While Trying to Stop Suspects in Speeding Car

    A Mississippi police officer was hit and killed Friday while trying to stop a car carrying two church burglary suspects as the vehicle sped toward a busy intersection. Grenada Mayor Billy Collins said Capt. John Wayne Haddock, 50, was hit by the car while trying to put out a spike strip to pop its tires, and he died at the scene on a state highway near the town. Police said that Haddock was thrown about 200 feet by the impact.

  • Virginia Crossing Guard Struck and Killed

    A school crossing guard was killed when she was hit by a pickup truck this morning. The crash happened about 7:30 a.m. while the crossing guard was directing traffic in front of Western Branch Primary School. A woman in a full-size pickup was driving east and could not see because of the glare from the sun.

  • Iowa Firefighter Struck and Killed While Directing Traffic

    Michael Collins, a Shelby, Iowa firefighter has been killed while directing traffic around an accident scene on Interstate 80 in western Iowa. Collins was struck by a car around 6:50 p.m. Sunday at the scene of the earlier crash on Interstate 80 just east of the Shelby exit in Pottawattamie County.

  • Iowa Tow Truck Drivers Struck and Killed

    The cause of a crash that killed the four men on Interstate Highway 80 in Poweshiek County, about 50 miles east of Des Moines, Iowa remains unknown, authorities said Wednesday. Towing industry workers said the accident highlighted the need for drivers to pay attention and, when they see people working on the shoulder, get over, as state law requires. Hanifen Towing drivers Jesse J. Inman, 29, of Ankeny and Daniel Walsh, 60, of Des Moines died while trying to help an Illinois man whose semitrailer had broken down. Another truck crashed into the vehicles, killing its driver and the other three men.

  • Ohio Tow Truck Driver Struck and Killed

    The Ohio State Police reported that a passing car on Route 224 in Boardman struck and killed Paul Macejko, a tow truck driver, while he was cleaning the street from an earlier crash on Saturday.

  • Maryland Tow Truck Driver, 38, Killed in Glen Burnie Hit and Run

    nne Arundel County Police are looking for a driver involved in a hit and run accident that killed a tow truck operator Wednesday morning on Route 100 in Glen Burnie. According to a police statement, tow truck operator James Frederick Schreiber Jr., 38, of the 200 block of Iris Drive in Pasadena was fatally struck while trying to help the driver of a disabled sewage truck. Investigators said he was outside his truck and preparing to tow the disabled vehicle when he was struck by a 1987 to 1995 Nissan Pathfinder, which may have been red.

  • Southeast Missouri Officer Killed in Crash

    A 28-year-old police officer from the southeast Missouri town of Caruthersville is dead after a suspect crashed into his squad car. Evan Burns died early Tuesday. Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell says deputies spotted a stolen Cadillac Escalade on Interstate 55 about 12:30 a.m., and began a chase. When the SUV left the interstate and went on Highway 84, Burns and another Caruthersville officer, Richard Altice, set up spike strips. The suspect's SUV struck Altice's car then rammed into Burn's car. Burns died on impact.

  • Tennessee DOT Help Truck Driver Killed

    A tragic event occurred today on Interstate 55 South in West Memphis, Arkansas. TDOT HELP Truck driver Robert Nowicki was fatally injured in an accident as he stopped to assist a motorist. Nowicki had been with the Tennessee Department of Transportation since 2006. His death marks the first death of a TDOT HELP truck driver/operator killed in the line of duty since the program began in 1999.

  • UK: Tow Truck Driver Dies After Being Struck in December of 2009

    In the United Kingdom, back in December of 2009, Denis Livesley, 60, was loading a crashed Volvo onto his recovery truck on a slip road off the M60, when a Volkswagen Golf skidded on ice and hit him. A tow truck driver was mown down by a runaway car only to be left dying in the road - as other motorists drove round him. Instead of stopping to help, drivers in other cars swerved round Mr Livesley as he lay face down on the inside lane of a slip road on the M60 near Sale, Greater Manchester.
