(LA) St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Struck and Killed
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office has identified the sergeant killed during a multi-parish crash Sunday morning.
Sergeant Grant Candies, 37, was assisting with a pursuit by deploying a spike strip on Interstate 10 near Oak Harbor exit when he was hit by the suspect's car.
The chase began on Brownswitch Road, when a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the driver drove off at a high rate of speed, refusing to stop.
The pursuit ended when the suspect's car crashed into a New Orleans Police Unit in Orleans Parish near I-10 and Crowder.
Sgt. Candies started his career with St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office in March 2016 and was promoted to sergeant in 2023.
Sgt. Candies was a veteran of the United States Marines and was the 2023 St Tammany Parish Deputy of the Year.
He was married with two children.
