(IL) Tow Truck Operator Struck and Killed
On Tuesday, December 24th, 2024, at 6:41 PM, a tow truck operator was loading a disabled vehicle on eastbound shoulder of I94 east of Sawyer Rd. As the tow operator was loading the disabled vehicle they were struck by a blue minivan that fled the scene. The blue minivan did not stop and continued eastbound I94 until it exited at Hwy C in an unknown direction. The 40-year-old male tow truck driver was transported to Aurora Summit and was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
East Bound I94 from Sawyer Rd to Hwy C was shut down for the investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Village of Summit Police Department, the City of Delafield Police Department, Lake County Fire Department and Western Lakes Fire Department.
UPDATE: December 25th, 2024
On December 25th, 2024, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department received an anonymous tip of a possible suspect vehicle at a residence in the Village of Wales. A suspect was developed based off this tip who owns a vehicle matching the description of the striking vehicle from the crash. The suspect, a 39-year-old male, turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Department during the investigation and his vehicle was recovered from the residence. The suspect is being booked at the Waukesha County Jail for Hit & Run Causing Death, a Class D felony under Wisconsin State Statute 346.67.
The victim of this incident has been identified as Hussain Farhat, an employee of Yaffo Towing out of Chicago, IL. Our heartfelt condolences are with the family during this difficult time. We will not be releasing additional information. This incident remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Patrol.
