(TX) Texas Deputy Constable Fatally Struck by Alleged Distracted Driver
Cameron County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable Ruben Garcia was helping with a crash scene when his cruiser was rear-ended by another vehicle while he was still in it.
A Texas deputy constable helping at a highway crash scene was fatally struck Monday by an accused distracted driver.
The incident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. as Cameron County Precinct 1 Deputy Constable Ruben Garcia was helping the Texas Department of Public Safety at a crash scene along State Highway 48, KVEO-TV reports. While Garcia was parked along the highway, his cruiser was rear-ended by a vehicle.
Garcia was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He later died of his injuries.
According to investigators, the other driver admitted to looking at his phone while driving. The incident remains under investigation.
