Utah: Trooper Eric Ellsworth Died From His Injuries
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Ellsworth has died as a result of the injuries sustained in the line of duty.
On Friday, Trooper Eric Ellsworth was working near the Garland area in Box Elder County when a call was received about a sagging power line. When he arrived in the 13600 block of State Road 13 he observed the line down and obstructing traffic. Trooper Ellsworth was in the roadway attempting to alert an approaching semi-tractor trailer driver of the downed wire so the truck would not strike the line when he was struck by a southbound vehicle. The 2006 Chevrolet passenger car that struck Ellsworth was driven by a 16-year-old girl and she remained at the scene after the crash.
Trooper Ellsworth had been in critical condition since Friday, before finally succumbing to his injuries on Wednesday.
