NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation Reports for "Motor Vehicle - Struck-by" Incidents

• New York: Heroic Long Island crossing guard fatally struck by a truck while saving kids

  A heroic crossing guard was fatally struck by a truck in Hempstead Village moments after saving the lives of several children while on duty Friday morning, officials said. Virginia Carol Leviner, 66, was holding up her stop sign and escorting three children across the street at the intersection of South Franklin Street and Grove Street around 7:30 a.m at the time, officials said.

• Michigan: Detroit police officer killed after being run down on traffic stop

  A Detroit police officer has died after being struck during a traffic stop on the west side at Puritan and Monica.

• New York State Trooper Killed After Being Struck By Vehicle

  Trooper Timothy Pratt was struck and killed by a vehicle while assisting a lost motorist on the 300 block of Ballard Road in Wilton, New York, at approximately 6:15 am.

• New York: Tow Truck Driver Killed on NY Thruway

  New York State Police have confirmed a tow truck driver was struck and killed Monday morning while assisting a disabled vehicle on the NYS Thruway Westbound between Exits 29 and 29A. Officials say the initial call for the disabled vehicle came in at 5:50 a.m. and the accident occurred at 6:26 a.m.

• Kentucky: Tow Truck Driver Struck and Killed

  A tow truck driver was killed Monday night in the 16600 block of Dixie Highway near Dixie Beach Road.

• North Carolina: Deputy Struck By Vehicle Passes from Injuries

  On September 18th, 2016, Deputy Sheriff John Isenhour was struck by a vehicle at the entrance to Tanglewood Park on Clemmons Road at approximately 10 a.m. while he was working at an annual cycling event. Deputy Isenhour was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he was treated and remained in critical condition. We have the sad duty of reporting that Deputy Isenhour succumbed to his injuries during the evening of September 28, 2016
