South Carolina: Taylors man struck and killed loading tow truck on I-85
The S.C. Highway Patrol said a man died at a hospital after a collision on Thursday night. Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne said the collision occurred on Interstate 85 northbound near mile marker 60 around 6:30 p.m.
Rhyne said the victim was loading a vehicle onto a wrecker along the side of the interstate when a driver ran off the side of the road. The driver was reportedly driving a 2015 Ford pickup truck and struck the victim, who succumbed to injuries just before 8:30 p.m. at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. The coroner identified the victim as James Edward Mills Jr., 42, of Taylors.
Taylors was pronounced dead at Spartanburg Medical Center at 8:24 p.m. Thursday from head and body trauma he suffered as a result of being struck, according to a statement from the coroner's office.
Troopers said the collision remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.
