A female Colorado State Patrol trooper was fatally hit on Sunday night while investigating crash on southbound Interstate 25 south of Castle Rock, authorities said. A decorated retired U.S. Army officer is accused of vehicular homicide, drunken driving and fleeing after police said he struck and killed a Colorado State Patrol trooper along a major highway, authorities said on Monday. Eric Peterson Henderson is being held on a US$1 million bond in the death of 33-year-old Jaimie Jursevics, who was killed Sunday night on Interstate 25 south of Denver

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody. Southbound I-25 was closed at Plum Creek Parkway and northbound lanes were closed at Tomah Road as crews investigated. The interstate reopened just before 5:30 a.m. "Our hearts go out to the trooper," CSP Chief Scott Hernandez said. "We're all grieving. We're grieving for the family of the trooper."
