Texas: Central Texas Officer Dies in Line of Duty
Hutto Police Sgt. Chris Kelley died in the line of duty Wednesday morning after he was run over by a suspect. The deadly incident happened near the intersection of FM 1660 and Meadow Lark Lane.
Kelley's body was taken in a hearse from Seton Medical Center Williamson around 2 p.m. and was surrounded and escorted by dozens of officers from around Central Texas. More details on exactly what happened during the incident are expected to be released at a 3:15 p.m. news conference from Hutto police at the Williamson County Emergency Services Office.
Sgt. Kelley has been a sworn Texas Peace Officer since December 2006. He has been an officer with the Hutto Police Department since July 2008. Before working in Hutto, Kelley served as a peace officer with the University of Texas System Police and was also a jailer with the Travis County Sheriff's Office. He began his career as a telecommunications officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety. He had a total of eight-and-a-half years of law enforcement work in his career.
