Texas: Dallas Firefighter Has Died After Fall Off Icy Highway Bridge
Icy road conditions in an around Dallas made for treacherous road conditions Monday evening. Dallas Fire Rescue is now confirming Firefighter William Scott Tanksley died after falling from an icy highway overpass onto the highway below. Firefighter Tanksley is reported to be a 14-year veteran assigned to Station 12. He was married and had three children.
According to initial information, Tanksley was working at the scene of an accident at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Spur 408 when he tumbled to the pavement below. There were reports the firefighter may have been hit by a vehicle.
Emergency vehicles had a difficult time reaching the scene because icy conditions were slowing traffic, and a helicopter ambulance was not an option due to the unfavorable weather.
