Texas Wrecker Driver Killed in Crash

A wrecker driver died while working to tow a stalled vehicle. The accident happened about 11:20 p.m. Friday April 5, 20913 in the center lane of the Southwest Freeway near Fountain View.

Investigators said the flatbed wrecker truck pulled up behind a woman and her male passenger as they sat in their stalled Toyota Corolla Authorities said secondary wrecker stopped behind them in order to set up a protective barricade for the two vehicles.

The passenger got out of the car and stood on the side of the freeway. The driver was trying to climb out through the passenger door as the flatbed operator was getting in on the driver's side. That's when a white pick-up truck drove around the barricade and slammed into the back of the flatbed wrecker, causing it to crush the Corolla, police said. The flatbed operator was still sitting inside was pinned inside the vehicle, investigators said.
