  • York County, Pennsylvania Fire Chief Killed by Drunk Driver While Directing Traffic at Crash

The Loganville Fire Company lost their chief early Saturday morning when he was killed in the line of duty. Fire Chief Rodney Miller was at Exit 8, the Glen Rock exit of Interstate 83, directing traffic off of the interstate. This was to land a helicopter on the highway to transport someone injured in an earlier accident. Miller had his vehicle parked in the southbound lanes with its emergency lights on. Matthew Diehl, 32 of Shrewsbury, was driving a white Chevrolet Trail blazer when he moved into the right lane to go around Chief Miller’s vehicle. Diehl struck Miller and then kept going until he came to the backlog of vehicles on the highway. Miller was transported to York Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
