NIOSH Fire Fighter Fatality Investigation Reports for "Motor Vehicle - Struck-by" Incidents

  • Update on Pennsylvania Fire Police LODD

    A Clinton County fire police officer was struck and killed Friday while working to control traffic around the scene of a crash that seriously injured an area man on Lusk Run Road, about two miles from Central Mountain High School. State police in Lamar said Donald G. Mellot, 62, of Flemington was struck in the road's eastbound lane about 1:30 p.m. by a car driven by Harold L. Moore Jr., 72, of Beech Creek.

  • Pennsylvania Fire Police Officer Struck and Killed

    A veteran fire policeman was tragically killed Friday while controlling traffic at the scene of a crash along Lusk Run Road, about a two miles east of Central Mountain High School. Donald G. Mellott, 62, of Flemington, a member of the Clinton County Fire Police Association, was hit by a silver Subaru driven by Harold Moore, 72, of Beech Creek, around 1:30 p.m., state police confirmed.

  • Update-Kansas Chief Killed in Backing Accident

    The fire chief of Linn Valley was killed in an accident at the Linn Valley Lakes Fire Department on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the fire truck driver was attempting to back up the truck but accidentally pinned Chief Stanley Giles, 69, in between the truck and another vehicle, killing him.

  • Kansas Chief Killed In Station Backing Incident

    It is reported that the Linn Valley, KS Fire Chief has been killed in the Line of Duty. Initial reports are that he died after being struck in a fire house apparatus backing accident, late this afternoon, February 10, 2010.

  • Pennsylvania Tow Truck Driver Victim of Turnpike Accident

    A tow truck driver attending to a crash scene on the Pennsylvania Turnpike was struck and killed by an out-of-control tractor-trailer Sunday night in Mt. Pleasant Township. Michael T. Pegg, 39, of Hempfield, an employee of Weavertown Towing Garage Services in Hunker, died at the scene of the accident in the westbound lanes of the turnpike, just 4.5 miles west of the Donegal Interchange.
