Torrance NM Deputy Struck and Killed

A Torrance County deputy has died after being hit by a car during a traffic stop Monday night.

Deputy Dominic Smith stopped a driver on Interstate 40 near Moriarty and suspected the car had drugs in it.

He was performing a narcotics investigation when another car ran into him.  The ABQ Journal.com an online publication reported that Deputy Smith was standing on the highway taking photographs when he was struck. It was reported he was not wearing a reflective vest.
