MAINE TRAFFIC CONTROL OFFICER DIES FROM WOUNDS AFTER BEING HIT BY CAR
A 67-year-old volunteer traffic control officer in Scarborough has died after being hit by a car while directing traffic around the scene of an accident.
James Durant was transported to Maine Medical Center following Thursday night's accident on Route 114. Hospital officials said he died on Friday December 15. Police said 54-year-old Elizabeth Coughlin was making a left turn from Running Hill Road onto Route 114 when she struck Durant. Durant was directing traffic following an accident just north of that intersection in which a car hit a house. No serious injuries were reported in that crash.
