MARYLAND STATE MAINTENANCE WORKER KILLED ON I-95
A Maryland Transportation Authority maintenance worker is dead after he was struck and killed Wednesday afternoon while working on the shoulder of I-95 at the Harford-Baltimore County line. The MDTA says Gregory Anthony Bauer, 37, of Abingdon was pronounced dead at Franklin Square Hospital.
State Police spokeswoman Elena Russo tells WBAL news Bauer was part of a two-man crew removing the debris from the left shoulder of the road near the Mountain Road exit. Russo says the driver of a Mazda lost control of her car, and it veered onto the shoulder, struck a median, and then struck the worker.
She adds the force of the impact threw Bauer onto the northbound shoulder.
The worker was taken by ambulance to Franklin Square Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The second worker on the crew was sitting in a highway maintenance truck at the time of the incident and was not hurt. The driver of the car was taken to Franklin Square Hospital, and was being treated for non-life threatening injuries. The road had been closed for several hours, but as of 5:30pm, the highway was open to traffic, though traffic is heavy.
