Arkansas: Slow Down, Move Over Awareness Day hopes to protect tow truck drivers, first responders

Governor Asa Hutchinson declared Wednesday August 23 Slow Down, Move Over Awareness Day in the state of Arkansas. This, as statistics show that one tow truck driver dies every six days in the U.S. when drivers fail to follow a law that protects both their safety and that of first responders. Drivers are required to move over when they see tow truckers or first responders providing assistance.

A group traveling around the country to raise awareness of this issue brought a symbol of truckers and first responders who lost their lives on the job. They call it, a “spirit casket”. The casket will take a stop in Memphis next as organizers continue to spread the word.
