Kentucky: Owensboro Police officer almost struck by vehicle during traffic stop

Owensboro Police Department asked the Kentucky State Police to investigate an incident where an Owensboro Police officer was almost struck by a vehicle intentionally targeting the officer during a traffic stop at noon on Saturday.

Just before noon, an Owensboro Police Officer said he spotted a vehicle traveling on Old Hartford Road after complaints on the vehicle. The officer performed a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 2500 block of Old Hartford Road. As the officer approached, he said he recognized the operator as Ryan S. Clark, who has multiple arrest warrants. The officer stepped back and ordered Clark to exit the vehicle. Clark revved the car's engine and put the car in reverse, attempting to strike the police officer.

Kentucky State Police reported the officer shot at Clark's car, but he sped away before running off Old Hartfield Road. Clark drove into a utility pole then ran away on foot where officers were able to arrest Clark without further incident.

No one was injured in the incident, and it is still being investigated by the Kentucky State Police. Kentucky State Police say more charges could come from the Owensboro Police Department depending on the investigation.
